Greetings in this Venus-day of White Ascension and Immortality,

I am back to offer a first lesson for High School Teenagers as well everyone of you.

Can you please wonder that in United States has two different and therefore not-serious definitions for One Trillion and One Billion?

This is because I love more the seriousness in Italian definitions ... also available in French and German, as well all Europe.

If Bill Gates declare he has 3 Trillion dollar ... in United States he will have:

  • 3 000 000 000 000 US$ = 3 x 1012 US$ (3,000 Billion US$)

However, an Italian will suppose he has ...

  • 3 000 000 000 000 000 000 US$ = 3 x 1018 US$

Therefore if Bill Gates will deposit his money on an Italian Bank ... he will not be a trillionaire ... but a "simple" Billionaire !

In the US and UK ... are established the so-called long and short scales ... and this lead to mistakes.

Things can go still more useless ... if the old words are applied. In fact, if Bill Gates say, "In the US, I AM have 3 milliards", trying to make some effect on some European or Italian man, the European will suppose he has ... "only"

3,000 x 10US$ = 3,000,000,000 = 3 x 109 US$,

that does not reflect honestly its 3,000 Billion US$.

Just to complete this "important" explanation ... I will add two terms:

  • Centillion and
  • Googol.

Here still are double meaning. A Centillion is 10303, in United States, Canada and UK.

In Europe, a Centillion is 10600. Only 297 zeros less ... !!!

However 1 Googol (related to Google most recent name) has the same meaning at both sides of Atlantic Ocean.

1 Googol is equivalent to 10100.

Can you beleive that in the XXI century ... the people of the world has these kind of problems? ... Just to establish the name of the numbers?

Incredible!

I, Giovanni ... consider very important to adopt the European words (not UK) ...like is valid in Italy and France.

Once this is solved ... a new discussion will arise about to adopt the "dot (.)" for decimal or thousand separation.

In the while Africa say, "There are rich people in the World?" ... I never saw one".

Thanks,

Giovanni A. Orlando.
